LET'S TALK

Let's talk

The ‘Let’s talk’ programme runs for 10 weeks and enables young people to learn skills and techniques required to make unique handmade items that not only get people talking about risk taking behaviours but promotes positive messages.

Session 1 is an induction/ taster session where beneficiaries discuss 4 risky behaviour topics; online safety, substance misuse, sex education and mental health, and decide which issue concerns them the most and has the biggest impact on their lives. The issue selected provides the focus for the 2 jewellery workshops, 2 Graffiti stencil workshops, 2 t-shirt printing workshops and 2 large canvas workshops. The 10th session concludes with a celebration planned by the beneficiaries where their work gets show cased, they receive in-house certificates, and their hard work gets commended.

The young people get to keep the jewellery, t-shirt and graffiti boards to promote a continual positive message and the paintings get displayed in public so they can be viewed by the community. The new gained skills and confidence the young people learn, combined with improved knowledge on relevant risky behaviour subjects helps empower individuals to make more informed choices in the future.

We would like to thank Award for All Wales for funding this project in 2019 – 2020.
